FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis
Hypnosis can heal your life too.
If hypnotism could be bottled, it would be the most powerful drug in the world.
Some frequently asked questions:
Q: What is hypnosis?
A: Everyone goes into hypnosis naturally every day of their lives. Hypnosis is really just a day dreaming state. Even those who say they do not daydream go through hypnosis twice a day, just prior to waking in the morning and just before going to sleep at night. Hypnosis feels like something between sleeping and waking
Q: Will I be aware of everything that is happening?
A: Absolutely. You are not put under or become unconscious while in hypnosis. You will hear and understand everything that is happening.
Q: So I will not be asleep then?
A: No, you are simply extremely relaxed. A person in hypnosis is fully aware of what is going on. You will hear all the background noises.
Q: Is someone else controlling my mind?
A: No one else can ever control your mind. It is your mind and you are in total control throughout.
Q: Could I be influenced to do anything against my will or nature?
A: No. Hypnosis is not a means of manipulating a person’s mind and a person in hypnosis is not under a spell, In fact, you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state if anything was suggested to you which contrary to your beliefs, ethics and religion. You can only ever be helped to achieve what you want to achieve.
Q: Is it impossible for some people to be hypnotised?
A: The degree varies from person to person but everyone can be taught to relax deeply and everyone can achieve the altered state of consciousness (except the mentally handicapped and those who are intoxicated.)
If you ever lose yourself in a good book, cry at the movies, day dream or find you are able to do something automatically like driving or typing while you are thinking about something else then you can go under hypnosis.
Q: How does hypnotherapy work then?
A: All your memories and life experiences are contained within your subconscious inner mind – your memory bank. When you are in a relaxed state of mind, it is easier for your subconscious mind to communicate with you. You can therefore identify patterns of behaviour that affect your life and understand their roots. Once you have done this you can replace this behaviour with a new programme for living.
Also, when you are in a relaxed state of mind, your subconscious is susceptible to the positively phrased suggestions which the trained therapist delivers
Q: Should ‘normal’ people have therapy?
A: Everyone can learn a lot from hypnotherapy. After you have learned why you are the way you are, you can find ways for you to become the way you want to be!
Q: How many visits will I need?
A: For straight suggestion therapies a maximum of two sessions are usually required, often one. But with analysis most of our clients need between three and twelve sessions.
Q: Is it safe?
A: Hypnosis is absolutely safe. There is no known case on record of harmful results from its therapeutic use.
